Activities in Action
Hello everyone!
My name is Leah Blekeberg, the Recreation Program Director here at Winslow. I recently graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Health Promotion and Education and a Gerontology minor. This past summer I did my internship at St. Luke’s Living Center West with their recreation program. I love working with the geriatric population and look forward to continuing to build relationships with the residents and staff here at Winslow.
My hometown is Ridgeway, Iowa. I grew up on my family’s farm helping with the livestock, crops, and my two horses. I love visiting back home to work on the farm with my dad. Some of my other favorite activities include kayaking, attending concerts, being in the outdoors, and visiting my friends and family.
This December our staff will be doing a fun secret Santa for the residents! Santa will be passing out these gifts at our Family Christmas Party on December 7th. A few of our upcoming activities in December will include: making Christmas ornaments, playing a fun gingerbread house game, making jingle bell necklaces, and reminiscing about our past Christmas celebrations while enjoying some hot cocoa. We look forward to the many special guests that plan to come throughout the month to sing Christmas carols, decorate sugar cookies, and make holiday crafts.
‘Tis the season to rock ugly sweaters! Staff and residents wear your best ugly Christmas sweater on Friday, December 20th.
